Thing 1

I believe that everyone is a lifelong learner. Everyday there is something new to be learned. Learning does not always involve a classroom. Learning can be done by sitting on a park bench or in a mall food court watching the world move around you.

After watching the 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners Tutorial, I would say that Habit 6, "Use technology to your advantage", is the easiest for me. I have always been interested in technology and how it works. In the military I was a Signal Support Systems Specialist. This job showed me a little bit about many communication systems the Army uses. I am technology savvy and at one time in my life wanted to have a career in the IT world. I wanted to fix computers and install them at large companies. Since then as you can see my interests and passions have changed. When I become a teacher, I know that inside my classroom I will be able to teach my children how to use technology to their advantage and show them the many resources out there that can help them succeed.

I believe Habit 4, "Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner", is the hardest for me. Whenever I am in class and the teacher poses a question to the class, I am hesitant to answer because I do not feel confident in my answer or my ability to portray what I mean to everyone, even though the next person said the exact same thing I was going to. This is something that I need to work harder on because as a soon to be teacher I cannot have the mentality of not being a good learner and then expect my children to not have that same mindset.

This is the first time I have used Web 2.0 tools. Setting up the blog was fairly easy, just had to figure out where to go for what. The only time I was frustrated was when I wanted to set up and view my posts. I hope that throughout this class I can learn more using Web 2.0 tools.

Identifying your strengths and most importantly your weaknesses makes you a better person and ultimately a better teacher for all children.  You have to be willing to admit when you are wrong and be willing to change your habits.
